Bikini Girls

Mosaic in Piazza Armerina, Sicily. Picture courtesey of Andreas Wahra
As I work near Newcastle's mall, I see a lot of people at lunch time wandering around in their swimmers and bikinis. I sometimes hear people criticising this and saying that everyone should be 'properly dressed' when going into the mall from Newcastle beach. However, leaving etiquette aside, there's something about this which I think is great: the fact that women feel safe enough not to fear getting verbal or physical abuse from men when walking around in a bikini. I can tell you that's not something to take for granted. For an interesting look at examples of every day sexism experienced by women, check out this site: http://everydaysexism.com/
